January Tracking Walk
January 13, 2026
UPDATE: Saturday’s walk postponed due to the predicted super cold temperatures (-38 with windchill??). We’ll do this as an on-the-fly outing if a good tracking day presents itself. Stay toasty friends!
It’s a liiiittle ironic to have a winter tracking walk delayed by snow, but safety (and accessibility) first!
// 🐾📆: Animal tracks & sign! Put on your wildlife adventurer cap this Saturday the 17th and join us for a winter critter walk with Willow Beach Field Naturalists
(Sometimes literally a critter walk – I’m pretty quick to bust out my raccoon imitation…)
Learning to see animal tracks and sign are free superpowers open to everyone. We get to use a time machine powered by science and imagination – to see who was here this morning, or last night, or maybe even last year! And not just time travel, but the ability to understand snow stories, and read the languages of so many different species. Learn to speak a little squirrel, a little mouse, a dash of fox, a bit of bunny… And like studying any new language, even learning a few key phrases will help you connect with new friends. 🐿️🗣️👂
The walk is free to attend, but please email 📨 info@willowbeachfieldnaturalists.org 📨 to let them know you’d like to come along. They’ll keep you posted on the final location in Northumberland county (TBD based on conditions/accessibility), and any last minute changes if the weather requires it. // 📆: More online talks and in-person walks are coming!
On January 30th I’ll be giving a talk on Mushrooms 101 🍄, and on February 25th a presentation on how to turn invasive species into art supplies 🎨. Details coming soon.
